Hey guys, I’m Ryan with ActuallyUsed — and if you are looking into a getting a Beatbot robotic pool cleaner, you’re in the right place. Today, I’m breaking down the differences of the Beatbot AquaSense 2 vs the Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra.
They sound super similar, but there are quite a few key differences between the two. And today, I’ll be throwing them in the pool, see how they perform, let you know my thoughts, and even hook up a manometer to the suction port on the bottom to let you know how much suction I recorded at the intake.
The AquaSense 2 is their entry-level cordless robot, while the AquaSense 2 Ultra is their flagship. This is a classic base model versus the top of the lineup. So are either of these cleaners worth the price tag? Today, we’ll find out and I’ll even share some competitors which outperformed both in my manometer testing.
The AquaSense 2 will run you a little over a thousand bucks. The AquaSense 2 Ultra? About $3,500. So we’re talking a $2,500 gap between these two. That’s a massive jump. And naturally, you’d expect the Ultra to absolutely blow the base model out of the water in every category. More suction. Better filtration. Smarter navigation. The works.

But does it? I tested both side by side in my pool, broke out the manometer, timed the charging, lived with the daily routine — and what I found might surprise you. Let’s get into it.
Suction Power — The Manometer Tells the Truth
If you’ve been watching this channel for a while, you know I don’t go off the marketing specs. Manufacturers love throwing around big flow rate numbers — the Ultra claims 6,500 gallons per hour, which sounds insane on paper. But flow rate and actual suction at the intake are two very different things. That’s why I use a manometer — it measures the real suction pressure at the intake port where debris actually gets pulled in. No guesswork. Just data.
So, I hooked up both robots to the manometer under identical conditions — same pool, same setup. The base AquaSense 2 on a full charge pulled 1.6 PSI. Alright, not terrible for a cordless robot. Then I tested the Ultra. Also on a full charge. And it came in at… 1.2 PSI.

Yeah. A lower number…
I double-checked it. Ran it again. Same result. So you’re looking at more than a $2,000 price difference — and in my testing, the suction power was lower on the more expensive unit. It just didn’t make sense. I expected the Ultra to at least push into the 1.8 or 2.0 range, especially at that price point. But it didn’t.
Now, for context — and I think this is important — I also tested corded robots like the Dolphin Premier under the same conditions. The Premier came in around 2.2 PSI. That’s roughly 37% more suction than both Beatbots. And the Premier costs about $1,500. So you’ve got a robot that costs less than half the Ultra and significantly outperforms both Beatbot models where it matters most.
I’m not saying the Beatbots can’t clean a pool, they definitely can. But no one wants to pay more for less. If suction power is important to you — and it should be, because that’s what actually picks up debris — the numbers tell a clear story.

Filtration — You Get What You Get
One area I was hoping the Ultra would seriously upgrade was the filter system. The base AquaSense 2 comes with what I’d call a basic fabric mesh. No pleating. And I wouldn’t say it has a high surface area. It catches the big stuff okay, but fine particles and silt? I could see some of it being stirred up by the unit and going right out the top.
The Ultra does have a slightly improved filter setup — it’s a dual-layer system and the basket is a bit more robust. But for $3,500, I expected something dramatically better. It’s still mesh-based. It’s still not comparable to the kind of advanced pleated filtration you see on some corded models.
For reference, robots like the Dolphin Premier come with what Maytronics calls NanoFilters — these are ultra-fine pleated cartridges that trap particles you can’t even see with the naked eye. They also include a leaf bag and a standard mesh filter, so you can swap depending on what your pool needs. That kind of versatility just isn’t there with either Beatbot. What you get in the box is what you’re stuck with — and at the Ultra’s price, that feels like a missed opportunity.

Automation — The Daily Routine Nobody Talks About
This is where things get really interesting — and where I think a lot of people get caught off guard after buying a cordless robot.
Both the AquaSense 2 and the Ultra are cordless, which means they run on batteries. The base model claims about 180 minutes of runtime. The Ultra gives you around four hours in standard mode, which is an upgrade. But here’s the thing — once the battery dies, both robots need to come out of the pool. You physically pull them out, set them on the charger, wait several hours, and then put them back in.
With the Ultra, that’s roughly a five-hour charge time. So if you want it to clean every day, you’re making two trips to the pool — one to pull it out and charge it, one to put it back in. That’s 14 interactions per week. And the base model isn’t any different — same daily charging cycle, just with a shorter runtime.

Now compare that to a corded robot with a weekly timer. You drop it in the pool, set the schedule, and walk away. It turns on automatically every day, cleans for a full cycle, and shuts off. You come back at the end of the week to rinse the filter. That’s one trip per week versus fourteen.
I call this the “interaction math,” and it’s the thing that really changed my perspective on cordless robots. In theory, no cord sounds amazing. In practice, you’re spending more time managing the robot than you would with a corded one. And the Ultra doesn’t solve this — it just gives you a longer runtime before the same daily chore kicks in.
The Ultra also weighs about 24 pounds dry. Add water weight, and you’re hauling a heavy piece of equipment out of the pool every single day. That gets old fast.

App & Connectivity — Same Story, Different Price Tag
Both Beatbot models come with an app, and the Ultra’s version has a few more bells and whistles. You get mode selection, mapping views, battery monitoring, retrieval features. On paper, it looks impressive.
In practice, both apps share the same fundamental limitation: they lose connection as soon as the robot goes underwater. So all those controls and features? They only work when the robot is at the surface. If it’s mid-cycle at the bottom of the pool doing its job, you can’t interact with it. You can’t switch modes. You can’t steer it. You can’t stop it remotely.
The Ultra’s app does have a bit more features. But the underwater disconnect issue limits how useful any of it actually is. For $3,500, I’d expect to be able to control the robot when it is underwater – but you can’t,

So What Does $2,500 Extra Actually Get You?
Let’s be fair here. The Ultra isn’t identical to the base model. You do get a longer runtime — roughly four hours versus three in the base model. You get surface skimming capability. You get a slightly improved filter basket. You get some more sensors on the unit and all of that.
But — and this is a big but — the suction power in my testing was less. The daily charging routine is the same. The app still disconnects underwater. And the core experience of owning a cordless robot — the pulling it out, the charging, the putting it back in — doesn’t change no matter how much you spend.
The surface skimming feature is worth mentioning. It does float around and try to collect surface debris, but in my experience, it’s more of a bonus feature than a game-changer. Dedicated solar-powered surface skimmers tend to do that job better and more consistently, without eating into your robot’s battery life. It’s a nice touch, but I never found myself using it that much – as we typically run a Betta SE in our pool.

Final Thoughts — Where Does That Leave You?
Here’s my take after using both of these robots. I’d get a corded robot.
If you’re dead set on going cordless and you’re choosing between these two, the base AquaSense 2 gives you most of the Ultra’s cleaning performance at a fraction of the price. The suction PSI was higher in my testing, and the daily routine is the same. It’s hard for me to tell someone to spend an extra $2,500 when the core cleaning experience is similar.
But my testing consistently shows that corded robots outperform cordless robots in the areas that matter: suction, filtration, and automation.
Stronger suction at the intake. Better filtration options. True set-it-and-forget-it automation with weekly timers. And often at a lower price point.

That doesn’t mean cordless robots are bad. They have a place. If you absolutely cannot run a cord to your pool or you have a very specific setup that makes cordless the only option, the base AquaSense 2 is a reasonable choice for the money. But if you’re spending $3,500 on the Ultra thinking you’re getting the ultimate pool-cleaning experience, I’d encourage you to look at what’s available in the corded space at that price point — or even well below it. You might be surprised at what you find.
At the end of the day, the best pool robot is the one that cleans your pool well and doesn’t make you think about it. In my experience, corded models just do that more consistently. But that’s my take based on what I’ve tested — you’ve got the data now, so the decision is yours.
